The Vegan Christian

That a Christian can be vegan has been written about on other sites. I didn't really think about it as a philosophy of life when I began eating an animal-free diet. But really the Bible says that carnivores will be herbivores when it all ends. And we were not carnivores until the Fall according to the Genesis account. So I just feel that I'm there a little ahead of time, maybe. I did notice that after I went completely vegan that I felt a lightness inside that seemed to have a spiritual source rather than a physical one. At the same time I am not questioning that God told people they could eat meat. But when Jesus speaks about divorce, He tells His listeners that they were given permission because they were hard hearted and that that wasn't God's ideal or command at all. It was a concession. I am also aware that Paul warns against anyone telling anyone they can't eat anything for salvation reasons. So I'm not preachy about this lifestyle. I only know that it is good for your health if you do it in a healthy way and that the way animals are treated in the food industry is very good moral justification for stepping outside the animal-based diet for conscience's sake.

I really like your approach to veganism and your faith. When I first became a vegan I was on fire and wanted everyone else to be vegan, too. I was a vegangelist. With time I realized that my dietary decisions were mine alone and that everyone else was just as entitled to their preferences and tastes. Since then, I've continued to enjoy my lifestyle and I've learned that other people's choices are as valid as mine. Thanks for sharing your perspective!
